Governments may pride themselves as CRISES MANAGERS but in assigning value to my collective experience, I realize that the media are experts in MANAGING THEMSELVES THROUGH CRISES ,being social agents of communication which make crises PUBLIC .
Little wonder why the media outlive all governments especially as they subject themselves to review and criticism within and without , even as they are level-playing platforms for cross fertilisation of ideas .
It struck me then that with the right value-orientation for the traditional media, they as social agents of communication could equally MAKE PEACE PUBLIC
That was why we had Nigeria's very first inter-faith workshop for working journalists in the country in 2001.
It was declared open by the then Minister of state for communication, Alhaji Aruna Elewi with testificatory remarks by quite an appreciable number of journalists and researchers who were participants at the two day workshop.
Having fulfilled all righteousness regarding our application for registration with the corporate Affairs Commission CAC which recommended MENVIA as qualified to be granted certificate , it became mysterious why it was not forthcoming amid speculation that security report was not on our side.
The last straw that broke our camel's back by succeeding PDP-led administration was our unceremonious ejection from government quarters which was officially allocated to us as our secretariat .
